The highlight of this week was taking my mate Jake to see ‘Thomas & Friends’.
We saw the show on Wednesday morning with about 5,000 other kids….some old kids like me and a lot of small kids like Jake. We had to chuff and toot to get Thomas on the stage, toot to wake up the sleepy sheep on the tracks and clap and sing and wave as Thomas saved the day after the big storm, by finding a big diamond to replace the broken lamp in the Sodor Island Lighthouse so that the festival of Lanterns could go ahead…….(The diamond was so big and sparkly that it would reflect the lights from the boats very brightly as it wouldn’t have been safe for people to go to Sodor Island if the lighthouse wasn’t working)…..and it was sooo cool!! Afterwards I bought Jake a Thomas Torch light and he was so tuckered-out that he slept for hours. On Thurday evening we left for a 21st in Hawera. We had an uneventful, albeit cool trip up to Waverley, where we spent the night with Ann's parents and continued the trip on Friday with more visits to Whanau and helping to set-up for the party. Saturday was fairly relaxed with finishing off the preparations and a spa before kicking-off the celebrations at about 1630hrs. We finally hit the sack about 0300hrs and were on the road for home by 0830hrs. We came back on SH3 to Turakina then across through Marton – Halcolmbe – Feilding – Colyton to Ashhurst where we had a break, then visited my mum in Masterton via the 'Track' before retuning over the 'Hill' and getting home at about 1645hrs, 688Kms on the clock for the weekends riding. I'll probably need to book in for the 24,000 Km service this week as we have the Capital 1000K Cruise next Saturday and that will put me about 500Km over.
